لأول مرة في تاريخ جامعة ستانفورد ، قامت الجامعة بنشر أشهر مواد علوم الحاسب مجانًا على الانترنت ، حيث يتمكن الطالب والمحاضر من الاستفادة من مواد الجامعة وذلك بالإطلاع على فيديو المحاضرات ، والواجبات ، والمذكرات  والاختبارات . وأسمت الجامعة هذه المبادة باسم مبادرة ستانفورد للهندسة في كل مكان(Stanford Engineering Everywhere) حيث تسعى إلى نشر تميزها في مجال الحاسب حول العالم. وكما هو معلوم فإن كثيرًا من علماء ومشاهير الحاسب درسوا في هذه الجامعة ومنهم لاري وسيرجي أصحاب شركة قوقل حيث كانا يحضران الدكتوراه فيها ، كما أن بيل جيتس يقوم بدعم قسم الحاسب رغبة منه في استقطاب خريجيها إلى شركته.
